Who can apply

You can get small business rate relief if your:

  • property is occupied
  • property's rateable value is less than £15,000
  • business only uses 1 property – you may still be able to get relief if you use more

You cannot apply for small business rates relief if you're eligible for charities and not for profit organisations relief.

What you'll get

You will not pay business rates on a property with a rateable value of £12,000 or less.

For properties with a rateable value of £12,001 to £15,000, the rate of relief will go down gradually from 100% to 0%.

Examples

If your rateable value is: 

  • £13,500, you’ll get 50% off your bill
  • £14,000, you’ll get 33% off your bill

If you use more than 1 property

If you get a 2nd property, you’ll receive any existing relief on your main (1st) property for 12 months.

You can get small business rate relief on your main property after this time if both the following apply:

  • none of your other properties have a rateable value above £2,899
  • the total rateable value of all your properties is less than £20,000

Tell us about changes

If your property becomes empty, you can apply for unoccupied (empty) property relief.

You should contact us within 4 weeks if you:

  • get another property
  • make any changes to your property that would increase its value
  • occupy an another property outside of Woking and the rateable value of the property has increased
