Woking Borough Council's notice of verification number.
Regulation 4 of The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011 requires the council to publish the total number of electors required to sign a petition requiring the council to hold a referendum on whether the local authority should start to operate a mayor and cabinet executive or the committee system.
The proper officer must publish the number of signatures needed on a petition for a referendum to take place on whether the local authority should change to a different form of governance.
In accordance with the above regulation, that number is equal to 5% as shown in the register of electors as of 15 February 2025. That number is 3,842.
The above published number shall have effect for the purposes of determining the validity of petitions from the date of this notice until 31 March 2026.
If the new number published in February 2026 is less than 3,842, then the new number will apply from the date it is published.
