Types of electoral offences

Your right to vote is yours and yours alone. No one should stop you from voting, or interfere with your right to vote.

The following activities are electoral offences and can be reported:

  • multiple voting – you cannot cast more than one vote in any election
  • impersonation – you cannot pretend to be someone else in order to vote as them
  • bribery – you cannot give money or offer gifts to persuade someone to vote a particular way
  • treating – you cannot directly or indirectly give or provide food, drink or entertainment in order to influence a voter
  • intimidation –  you cannot use undue influence or intimidation of any kind to influence the way someone votes

If anyone is using bribery, treating or intimidation to influence you or anyone you know, report it immediately.
