Make deductions from your wages, salary or welfare benefits, bailiff action, other recovery actions.

Make deductions from your welfare benefits for unpaid Council Tax

We can ask the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to make payment deductions from your benefits.

Payments can be taken from your:

  • Universal Credit
  • Job Seekers’ Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Employment Support Allowance
  • Guaranteed Pension Credit

After we make a request to the DWP, they will contact you to confirm the details.

The deductions will remain in place until your debt is fully paid or your benefits entitlement ends.

You cannot challenge the deductions taken from your benefits.

What you can do

The main action you can take is to continue to pay your regular instalments in full and on time.
