The Woking Borough Council Digital Action Plan was updated in January 2025, and is focused on delivering digital outcomes.

Workstream 5: Build digital-era capability and structures

Intended outcomes

  1. We are proud of our standing, in-house Digital Services team.
  2. All our people feel confident in their knowledge and skills around the technology they need to do their jobs.
  3. Our top tier leaders are educated in the impact of digital technology, and are ambassadors for technology innovation inside and outside the organisation .
  4. We can adapt quickly from project to project, using our standing teams to help the council prioritise and meet its needs.
  5. We have a mature approach to security, meaning we are able to protect our staff and residents from being exploited.
  6. The council becomes a destination for the digital, technology and data skills market, and is able to hire, retain and develop the best talent locally and nationally.

Progress so far

  • Online digital training rolled out, staff regularly using agile methods and kanban boards.
  • Regular Show and Asks.
  • Full scale team and organisation restructure.
  • Digital Champions led rollout of Microsoft 365. Content Champions will provide a network of staff updating and improving online content and forms.
  • Digital apprentice appointed.
  • Updated and mandated cyber security training, resulting in 90% reduction in staff clicking test phishing emails.

2025-2026 priorities

  • Roll out wider digital training.
  • Carry out a full review of our digital, data and technology pay in line with the SFIA framework, ensuring we are competitive in the industry.
  • Prepare for potential unitarisation / devolution.
