Before you apply for a pavement licence
What you need to know before you apply, including eligible businesses and the types of outdoor furniture that you can use.
Businesses that can apply for a pavement licence include:
- pubs
- cafes
- bars
- restaurants
- snack bars
- coffee shops
- ice cream parlours
- those that have food or drink services as part of the business, such as supermarkets and entertainment venues
Outdoor street furniture
Outdoor furniture that is allowed includes:
- counters or stalls for selling or serving food or drink
- tables, counters or shelves on which food or drink can be placed
- chairs, benches, or other seating
- umbrellas, barriers, heaters and other equipment used for outdoor consumption of food or drink
Serving alcohol and food
A pavement licence does not allow you to sell alcohol. To check which licences you may need, go to alcohol, entertainment and late night refreshment licences.
You may also need to register a new food business.
